Organizer of the inaugural edition of the Coal City Futsal 7-a side Championship, Chinedu Darlington has stated that despite the challenges that were encountered during the build up to the project, he is satisfied with the level of participation of the teams, adding that subsequent editions would be bigger and better.
He made this disclosure at the weekend, after the final game between 1920 Football Academy and Coal City United, at the Rangers International Training Pitch, Liberty Estate, Independence Layout, Enugu.
According to him, the aim of introducing futsal football which is mainly 5-a-side or 7-a-side game is to expose the teams to the modern and best practices of global football, thereby encouraging the coaches and players to be more dynamic, active, cohesive and with a high level of intelligence on the field of play.
On his part, 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Ejike Uzoenyi, praised the teams for putting up an awesome performance in the championship, reaffirming that the organizers will definitely improve on the lapses observed.
Reflecting on how he feels winning the tournament, Captain of Coal City United, Pius Igwe, hinted that they were mentally, physically and psychologically prepared for the championship because every team in the competition are potential winners.
Meanwhile, Coal City United who were crowned champions of this year’s edition of the competition, by defeating 1920 Sports Academy (Uwani) 1-0, were rewarded with a trophy and a whooping sum of a #100, 000.
The 2-day championship which had 7 teams within the metropolis participating, witnessed dignitaries from far and near which include coaches, players and football enthusiasts as they cheer and motivate their teams.
