The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, FMYSD, has reiterated that it will continue to provide a sustainable framework for the formulation and Implementation of policies, programmes and other Initiatives which will promote and enhance youth and sports development in country, adding that they will be collaborating with all stakeholders for the funding of the sector.

Speaking in a telephone chat yesterday from Abuja, the Youth and Sports Minister, Honorable Sunday Dare, refuted the recent allegation of the Ministry requested the sum of #21 billion for the rehabilitation of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

According to him, his administration inherited a stadium that was built over forty years ago, abandoned and left in a serious dilapidated situation with so many illegal structures and illicit businesses thriving in the complex, stating that the Ministry is doing everything to sanitize the complex.

The Minster revealed that the former Lagos State government had made effort in past to take back the National Stadium so as to revive sporting activities within and around the complex, hinting that a joint venture has been put together whereby the State government, the concessioner and any other stakeholder would have a stake.

On the issue of the technical committee that is being saddled with the responsibilty of incoporating the private sector into the Sports Policy, Honourable Dare explained that the members had earlier pleaded for more time work out the modalities.but confirmed that they would be submitting their findings in the next two weeks,

Responding on the overall performance of his administration’s as the tenure gradually comes to end in May, he expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the opportunity to serve the country, saying that he will always avail himself if such situation ptesents itself in future.
