South East Zonal Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs. Ngozi Margret Eze has expressed displeasure over the negligence and deplorable conditions sports has witnessed over the years, stating that the region has produced talented athletes that have done the country proud in both local and international championships.
She made this statement at the end of the 7th edition of the Under-15 National teams sports elimination games, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium over the weekend.
According to her, the major challenge they are facing is that most of the state governors are not consenting to sports programs and activities and are not financially bankrolling the competitions, thereby putting the organizers and host in a difficult situation.
Also Speaking, Imo State Director of Sports, Sir Ferdinand Emeagha praised the overall performance of the state contingents at the competition, advising the younger generations on the significance of education in their career alongside sports.
On his part, Anambra State Volleyball Coach, Ejioma Ndudi attributed their victory the Almighty God, parents of the childrens and everyone that played a part to success of the entire team, promising that they would prepare better ahead of the National Youth Games proper.
Reflecting on his side’s performance, Team Enugu Handball Captain, Destiny Elochukwu was indeed happy and excited over their victory against their opponent, reassuring that they will not disappoint the state when hostilities for game begins in Asaba, Delta State.
To this the end, for BASKETBALL Team Ebonyi (Girls) and Imo (Boys) qualified, HANDBALL will see Enugu (Boys), in VOLLEYBALL Anambra outshined every team in both categories, Enugu (Boys) and Abia (Girls) qualified for FOOTBALL event while Imo also dominated in both categories in HOCKEY event.
However, the 3-day competition witnessed the five southeastern states putting up amazing and high intensity competition as the Under-15 National Youth Games would be coming up from the 7th to 17th September, 2023, in Asaba, Delta State.
