In many regions of the world such as Europe, North Africa, West Asia, Central and South America, competitive tennis has taken a different and higher dimension, and so the organisers of the Sir Victor Uwakwe South East Tennis Championship has hinted that this year’s competition would be thrilling and exciting.
This year’s competition which enters the sixth edition would witness players from the south east and south south region of the country would serve off from the13th -25th, September 2022, at the tennis court of the Enugu Sports Club, Okwara Avenue, GRA.
In an exclusive interview with power sports correspondent, Ugo Okeiyi, sponsor of the competition, Sir Victor Uwakwe revealed that the essence of the championship was to expose and equip young players with the right skills, mentality and attitude to become tennis greats and responsible individuals in future.

According to the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Dr. Lawrence Azike who hinted that the competition would be in a round robbing format, with semifinals, finals and prize presentations inclusive, adding that they are expecting about 45 players and coaches that would be participating in the competition.
On his part, Captain of theTennis Section, Enugu Sports Club, Robert Ngwu expressed his profound gratitude to the sponsor, describing the competition as a breeding ground to unearth and harness young talented tennis players.

It would be recalled that last year event saw David Okonkwo (Enugu) cart home the overall star prize and trophy in the Under -21 category, Chiadikobi Mecha emerged winner in the Under -15 while in the female category, Favour Abengowe came out tops as she outclassed Chiamaka Obed in three straight sets.
