Aside being an important unifying tool and a platform for youth empowerment, research has proven that sports also discourages youth restiveness and crime, and so the National Coordinator, Police Campaign Against Cultism And Other Vices (POCACOV), Ebere Amaraizu emphasised on the significance of sports as an instrument of change and hope in the modern society.
He made this disclosure over the weekend at end of the Community/Rural Sports Conference tagged “Ogbe Sports 2022, held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
In an exclusive chat with power sports correspondent, Ugo Okeiyi, the police chief revealed that the primary objectives of the conference was to galvanise support from the relevant stakeholders, enhance participation and development of the communities through grassroot sporting activities, describing the activity as a platform to nurture and expose young talents for the future.
In her key note address, Executive Director, Heroine Women Foundation, Mrs. Onyinye Mamah thanked the organisers of the conference, stating sports will definitely integrate and salvage the female folks from every form of domestic violation.
Also speaking, Former Super Falcons and toppserien Football Club (norway) midfielder, Maureen Madu advocates for the girl-child to participate in sporting activities, admonishing the sports authorities on the urgent need to continually developing sports from the grassroot.
However, dignitaries present at the event includes, officials from the Enugu State Ministry of youth and sports, Education, Post Primary School Management Board (PPSMB), exco members from different sporting association, coaches amongst others.
