PERM SECRETARY, ENUGU STATE MINISTRY OF YOUTH AND SPORTS LEADS OVER 100 RUNNERS IN OLYMPIC DAY RUN IN ENUGU.

As Enugu State joins the rest of the world in commemorating this year’s edition of Olympic Day Run, the Permanent Secretary of the Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Chris Mbah has stated that the primary objective of the event is symbolic to sportsmen and women that would be participating in next year’s Olympic games in Paris, France, emphasising on the significance of preparation and planning.

The activity which commenced from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium around 8:15am witnessed the some senior officials from the ministry, children, passer-bys and sports enthusiasts ran and walked through the busy routes of the stadium road, ABC transports road till Day Spring.and back the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium today.

Speaking to newsmen after the event, the Permanent Secretary acknowledged the sports is business in developed worlds, and also an avenue to engage young people positively through competition.

He promised that the new administration will continue to sensitive the populace, organising seminars and creating enabling environment for sportsmen and women participation, adding that every structure or apparatus they will be putting up will be within the confines of the law.

Also Speaking, Director Coaching in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Comrade Ephraim Ochonma hinted despite the challenges experience during the build up towards the event, the ministry had to go the extra mile in making sure the program was a success.

 

It would be recalled that the international Olympic Committee (IOC) was formally established on 28th June, 1894 through the effort of Pierre de Coubertin, who is promoting competitive sports as a revival of the ancient Olympic games.
