It was a beehive of activities over the weekend as the Enugu State Taekwondo Association (ESTA) in conjunction with the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), ASTRIC, Odera Ugo Foundation hosted the U-15 boys and girls Taekwondo Exhibition and Poomsae Challenge at the indoor sports hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
The event which tagged “OUR CHILDREN MUST THRIVE”witnessed parents, guardian, caregivers, students, sports enthusiast and passer-bys from different parts of the metropolis troop in their number to catch a glimpse of what the children could do.
Speaking to newsmen at the end of the event, Chairman, Enugu State Taekwondo Association and the National Coordinator POCACOV, Chief Supritendent of Police (CSP), Ebere Amarizu stated that the program will help reorient young people, activate consciousness of parents, guardians reiterating that the primary objectives of the association is to produce champions in every spheres of life.
Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director, Odera Ugo Foundation (OUF), Rotarian Uchegbu Ugochukwu expressed satisfaction with level of participation and turnout at the event, reassuring that they will continue to throw their weight behind sports developments.
In his words, Coach of the Enugu State Taekwondo Association, Ekwerike Franklin is indeed optimistic about the performance and impact of such kind of events on the children and participants, lamenting over the negligence of sports ion the part of government in the state.
Responding to the role sports can play in school curriculum, Mrs Lilian Ngozi g,, kudos to the association for putting up such an event, admonishing parents and guardian in backing their children or wards in sporting activities.
Similarly, 17-year old gold medalist, Kamsi Ani hinted that she ventured into the combat sport when she was 4 through the assistance of her uncle (dennis ani), advising her female folks on the advantages of indulging in the sport.
