Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Gregory Obi, has emphasized on the significance of celebrating and paying homage to excellence especially to heroes and legends that made remarkable impacts in all spheres of life, saying that it is a pathway to build a better tomorrow for the younger generations.
He made this statement recently during the service of songs for the late former Rangers International of Enugu players, Stanely Okoronkwo and Harrison Mecha, at the Indoor Sports Gymnasium Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
The Former Governor, who is also the Grand Patron of Ex Rangers International reiterated that the ex-players were icons and served their fatherland passionately during their active days, assuring both families that he will assist in any capacity he can.
Also Speaking, Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah represented by Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, appreciates the Grand Patron for his immense commitment and financial support all the years, adding that the two players are role models that would be emulated.
In his words, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Rangers International Football Club, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku represented by Administrative Secretary, Barrister Ferdinand Ugwuera, prayed that the Almighty God grant the families of the deceased players the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, reaffirming that the club will also will stand by them through this period.
Representing the Okoronkwo family, Emmanuel Okoronkwo, a relation of the late footballer, spoke intensively about the life and times of his late relation, saying that he was indeed a rare gem that left an indelible mark on the sands of time.
In his vote of thanks, Chairman of Ex Rangers International, Pastor Igwe Okolo expressed deep gratitude to all invitees for their precious time and contribution, praying that the Almighty God bless them abundantly.
The Program which was put together by the Ex Rangers International family witnessed dignitaries from within and outside the state, graced the occasion.
It would be recalled that Stanley Okoronkwo and Harrison Mecha who were part of the success story of the club from 1974 to 1984, died recently.
