ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT RECIEVES NATIONAL TOURCH OF UNITY.

The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has reiterated its commitment towards development of sports at the grassroots level, hinting that sports is a unifying factor and an avenue unearth and nurture young talents to stardom.

He stated this at the state government house, independence layout over the weekend while receiving the National Touch of Unity of the 21st National Sports Festival holding in Asaba, Delta State, assured that the state will continue to partner with the National body, Federal Government and its athletes for a successful outing.

The Governor who was represented by his Special Adviser on Information, Barrister Steve Oruro reaffirmed that the state would not forget the athletes that won medals at the last edition of the competition that was held in Benin City, Edo State.

On her part, the Director, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mrs. Amaka Ashiofu thanked the state government for their reception, charging the state athletes to put up a good performance in their quest for glory.

Speaking earlier, Southeast Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Margret Ezeh hinted that the torch of unity signifies all is set for biannual games, hoping that state athletes would improve on the overall medals table.
Also present at the brief ceremony include the National Touch Bearer, Westham Shedrack, Southeast Zonal Sports Officer, Jane Owoh Commissioner Enugu State Ministry for Youth and Sports, Honourable Manfred Nzekwe, Director, Organizing in the Ministry, Boniface Onovo,  Director, Coaching in the Ministry, Kenneth Onugulachi among others.
The hallmark of the event was the lighting of the Torch of Unity by the official of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the procession enrpute the handling over the torch to the state governor.
Meanwhile, this year’s edition of the National Sports Festival is scheduled to take place from 28th November to 10th December, 2022.
