The Enugu State Football Association, ESFA, has reaffirmed its commitment towards the development of football in the state, hinting that such avenues will be explored to discover and nurture talented players to stardom.
Chairman of the ESFA, Barrister Tony Ugwu made this statement yesterday shortly after the final of the 2024 Enugu State Football League, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
According to him, the final match lived up to expectations as both teams displayed so much energy and determination, while reassuring that other parts of the state will be incorporated in their subsequent programs.
On his part, Head Coach, Great Achievers Football Club (Emene), Onyekwu Michael, admitted that winning an experienced and organised side like FC Inter, did not come easy, hinting that there will be reinforcement in some departments.
To this end, Great Achievers FC emerged winners of this year’s tournament by defeating former champion FC Inter 4-2 on penalties after both sides ended 1-1 in regulation time.
Apart from securing this year’s title and representing the state at the National League One play offs, the Emene base team were rewarded with a whooping sum of #500,000 and a giant trophy.
Two-time ESFA winners, FC Inter (Uwani) and Disdevt Afrik FC (Independence Layout) earned #300,000 and #200,000 for placing second and third position respectively.
