Coaches in the Enugu State have condemned the high level of maladministration, gross malpractices and deplorable conditions of sports and its infrastructure in the state,, calling for a massive overhaul of the sector.

They made the call recently after a proposed courtesy meeting with the    Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in the state at the State Secretariat Headquarters, GRA, at the weekend.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the Coaches expressed dissatisfaction over the non chalatant and insensitive attitude on the part of the State Ministry for Youth and Sports Development, noting that the trend is seriously affecting the state in major competitions.

According to them, the hierarchy of the civil service does not recognize the position of the Director of Organizing in the Ministry for Youth and Sports Development, stating that such designation is conscripted or manipulate.

They also frowned at the constant irregularities and discrepancies being upheld in the Ministry most especially when the state government has releases funds for a competition, while stressing that the Office of the Director of Organizing does not have the powers to decide how many athletes and events should participate or be dropped from any competition.

The State lost over four medals in the weight lifting and boxing events of the NYG on protest grounds because of the ineptitude and selfish intentions on the part of an official in the Ministry.

The coaches thereby call on the state government and relevant authorities to investigate and review these recurring developments in the sports sector and the Ministry, insisting that there is urgent need to change the narratives
