Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, has stated that their primary target is to make sports and sporting activities hub of the region and the country, assuring that the sector will definitely giving the required attention.

 

He made this statement during the commissioning of the Remodelled Uyo Township Stadium on Wednesday, as his administration winds up on its last days in office.

According to him, he is confident that the state can produce many world beaters in different sporting events because of the huge investments in facilities and equipment that have being put in place, reiterating that talents from different parts of state will be giving the platform to excel.

 

Reacting to the development, Special Adviser on Sports and General Manager, Akwa United Football Club, Paul Bassey showered praises on the outgoing governor, noting that his administration has giving sports a facelift in the state.

One of the many modifications to the stadium is the expansion to a 15,000-sitting capacity which was formerly 5,000.

The Stadium which will be the third standard stadia in the state besides Godswill Akapbio International Stadium and Eket Stadium, has an Astroturf playing surface for football matches. There is also an Indoor sports halls for Judo, Weightlifting, Taekwondo, Boxing, Wrestling, and an Olympic size swimming pool.
